DAVID W. WEBSTER
In 1986, after growing up on the coast of Maine, David Webster began playing back to back lead roles on the main stage of Georgia Southern University. While in school being directed and taught by Alex Chrestopolous, Patti Pace, Josh Braun and Michael Whitaker, he attained an agent and a speaking role in the movie “1969” with Keifer Sutherland and Robert Downey, Jr. In order to self educate, Webster produced, directed and acted in several plays in Statesboro and Savannah, Georgia before moving to Chicago for greater input and influence.
Webster quickly began playing roles on stage at the Avenue Theatre and the Shattered Globe Theater while simultaneously immersing himself into training and performing at
Chicago's Second City Improv for stage. Webster was soon invited to perform with Act Now Improv, Big Bang Improv, Wavelength Improv (national tours), and many others. The first play Web Directed in Chicago (Veronica's Room by Ira Levin)was nominated for the highest award in Chicago theater
"The Joseph Jefferson award" In 1994, Webster moved to Atlanta, Georgia and founded an Improv Comedy and playhouse called Whole World Theatre. Here he wrote and produced several plays including “Pimps, Queens, and Dope Fiends,” “Bloodclot Bingo,” and “Fruit of the Lord”. Webster produced plays by William Shakespeare, David Mamet, Sam Shepard, Tennessee Williams, Lanford Wilson, John Patrick Shanley and more. Webster’s largest achievement in theatre was his newly invented improv form called “The Novel.” This was a ninety minute cinematic improvisational journey that was different every week and helped him sell out 1500 consecutive shows in eight years. The last 600 shows were filmed by a 4-6 camera crew and the episodes were sold to Turner South. These episodes aired in 7 million homes for five years with high Neilson ratings before it was sold to
Castlerock Entertainment. Webster has won a
Regional Emmy Award as a writer, has been nominated for two
Telly Awards, won a National Monitor Award and a few others. He has written twenty screenplays, filmed three full length feature films
"Deer Baby", "Jessa Joins the Army" and "Ever Seen the Rain?" He also wrote and directed the shorts "SuperDog", "Long Train, Small Town," "Farmer's Daughter," the 2008 Adrenaline Film Project Jury Award winning "They Will Come For You..." and with his new high definition camera "TRASHTOWN". Webster is presently writing his next movie. Webster dedicates all of his work to his three beautiful children Zoe, Bear and Lulu and to the love of his life, Una.
